Not long ago a deal was posted for a Yamaha TSR-7790BL which is comparable with the RX-V779. That unit can be purchased at Costco for $489.99. I been thinking about getting it, but didn't want to spend quite that much money. While I was looking around today, I found last years model of this unit at Ebay .The RX-V777 is being sold by Newegg so it should be eligible for the manufacturer's warranty. Here are the specifications:

  • 7.2-Channel powerful surround sound
  • 110W per channel (8 Ohms, 1kHz, 0.9% THD, 2-ch. driven)
  • 95W per channel (8 Ohms, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.09% THD, 2-ch. driven)
  • Aluminium front panel for enhanced rigidity
  • HDMI (6 in / 2 out) with 4K Ultra HD upscaling, 3D, Audio Return Channel and MHL support
  • The latest HDMI version support for 4K 50 / 60p input
  • AirPlay, Pandora, Rhapsody, Spotify, SiriusXM Internet Radio music streaming service and AV Controller App
  • HTC Connect for music streaming from HTC Connect compatible smartphones
  • HDMI input on front panel, USB digital connection for iPod, iPhone and iPad
  • FLAC, WAV 192kHz / 24-bit, Apple Lossless 96kHz / 24-bit playback and gapless playback compatibility
  • Virtual CINEMA FRONT provides virtual surround sound with five speakers in front
  • YPAO Reflected Sound Control sound optimization with multipoint measurement
  • YPAO Volume to ensure natural sounds even at low volume
  • Multi-zone audio support (Zone 2)
  • HDMI Zone B for audio / video streaming to another room (same content as main room)
  • Dialogue Lift and Dialogue Level Adjustment for natural dialogue and vocals
  • Advanced GUI on-screen display with (English, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Italian, Japanese and Chinese)
  • ECO mode operation for about 20 percent less power consumption

The primary difference between the RX-V777 and the RX-V779 is that last year's unit has HDMI 2.0 and the newer unit has HDMI 2.2. The advantage (if you want to call it that) of HDMI 2.2 over 2.0 is that 2.2 has a sophisticated copy protection scheme that the movie producers will be using to protect their 4K content. I don't anticipate that issue is going to affect me in the near term and there is enough of the 2.0 units manufactured, I expect that there will be a box or something I can get which will allow me to see the content.

Anyway, for me, the savings of $80 was worth it.

Amazon is selling the unit for $584.99 and it has a 4.5 star rating.

Ebay/Newegg unit is $409.99
