Real Life Deals, 2012-03-10 14:31 EST Simple Secrets to a Happy Life Book Review

It’s not ‘having it all’ that is important. It’s ‘having what matters’ that counts.

In this new book, Simple Secrets to a Happy Life, Luci Swindoll gives us 50 ways to make the most of every day life.

Is it possible to stay full of life, laughter, love, and the Lord through eight decades in this crazy world? Is that even realistic? Yes! There is hope, and Luci Swindoll is living proof.

With heart and humor, this best-selling author and beloved speaker lays out the truths that can help us all become a little more creative, organized, healthy, and happy. This is not a complex prescription for how to become superwoman. These are simple secrets, the wisdom produced by years of walking with God and living well.

We don’t need more tips for “having it all,” but we could all use insight on “having what matters,” and there is no better guide than Luci Swindoll.

About the author
Luci has spent eight decades accumulating the stories, memories, verses, and practical tips that make up Simple Secrets to a Happy Life. Whether traveling the world or building life-long friendships, singing in the opera or working for Mobil Oil, every step has taught her a little more about how to love God, love her neighbor, and love herself.

My Opinion:
Everyone needs a book like this in their house. It is the kind of book you set on the table beside your couch, or in the basket of magazines in the restroom or in your side pocket of your car. You need to be able to pick this book up and read a chapter when you just have a couple minutes but you need something to lift you up, encourage you or just give you a fresh perspective.

The concepts covered in this book are not new. They are common sense thoughts that everyone needs to know. Chapter 2 is called “Be on Time for Everything”. Then you have 3 pages telling when Luci learned this lesson and how this basic ‘secret’ can change your life. Another chapter tells the importance of doing what is important right now. I loved this chapter. Luci was fighting a nagging cough and felt horrible. She didn’t want to go to the doctor since she was supposed to be writing for another book. However, when confronted with the health issue, she realized that the most important thing for the ‘now’ moment was to take care of herself, then let the book fall into a prioritized second place. Such an important thing to remember.

I have really enjoyed this book. I love the down to earth writing style and the common everyday approach to life that Luci models.

I received a copy of this book from Tommy Nelson and Book Sneeze for the purpose of this review.
